NET REVIEW… There was no formal net on Saturday, August 1, but youth op KC3RAP stopped by along with KG8CX. KE2AVB and AG5QU were in and out. Let’s hope for a larger group and more youth check ins next Saturday.
CHAT SESSIONS… Thursday, July 30 had no chat session, but youth ops KC3RAP and KE2EVX stopped by.
Friday, July 31 had 4 ops. John KJ7AGQ was Net Control. Also aboard were KG8CX, VU2MDA and K3TEL.
Monday, August 3 had 6 ops. John KJ7AGQ was Net Control. Youth ops: KJ7AGQ, KD9GV and KE9EKF. Also aboard were AD9DO, KG8CX and W4LBY.
Tuesday, August 4 had 6 ops. John KJ7AGQ was Net Control. Youth ops: KJ7AGQ, KC3RAP and K4EBP in and out. Also aboard were KG8CX, VU2MDA and KC3CDU.
Wednesday, August 5 had a strong group of 10 ops. John KJ7AGQ was Net Control. Youth ops: KJ7AGQ, KF8GDG, KF8GDF and KI8AN. Also aboard were K3TEL, KE2AVB, KG8CX, KC8JRS and KC3CDU, with VU2MDA in and out.
Thanks to all who checked in and supported our youth operators. Just a minute or two is always appreciated and helps keep YACHT active. Let’s continue to hear a greater presence of youth and others who support YACHT and amateur radio.
HALEY KE2EVX BIRTHDAY POTA ACTIVATION… Haley KE2EVX will be activating POTA with her club on Sunday, August 9, using the club callsign W2OW. If you make contact with W2OW on August 9, ask the operator to tell Haley Happy Birthday. Let’s have plenty of YACHT members looking for W2OW and wishing Haley a great birthday.
PERSEID METEOR SHOWER… The Perseid Meteor Shower will peak during the night of August 12 into the morning of August 13. A New Moon will provide dark skies and excellent viewing conditions. Find a dark area away from city lights, allow your eyes time to adjust and look up after midnight. The Perseids often produce many bright meteors and occasional fireballs.
The Perseids also provide opportunities for amateur radio meteor scatter. Ionized meteor trails can briefly reflect VHF and UHF signals, with 6 and 2 meters being popular bands for this activity. This could be an interesting mode for YACHT members to listen for or explore…
