REMEMBERING ED ENGLEMAN KG8CX… It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Ed Engleman KG8CX on September 24, 2026.

Ed co-founded the Young Amateurs Communications Ham Team in 2007 and devoted many years to encouraging young people in amateur radio. Through YACHT, he helped young operators get on the air, build confidence, make friendships and discover all that amateur radio has to offer.

Ed was a friend, mentor and familiar voice to so many in the YACHT community. His dedication to youth in amateur radio made a lasting difference in the lives of many, and he will be greatly missed.

YACHT will continue the work Ed began and carry his legacy forward. We hope that keeping young operators active on the air, building friendships and helping one another learn and grow in amateur radio will be a fitting way to honor everything Ed gave to YACHT.

Plans are being made for a special YACHT Memorial Net and Last Call for KG8CX. More information will be shared on the YACHT website as details are finalized.

NET REVIEW…

Saturday, September 26 had a strong group of 10 check ins. Youth operators: KJ7AGQ, KI8AN, KI5KGE, KJ5EWP, KJ5NVM and KC3RAP. Also aboard were K3TEL, AG5QU, KE2AVB in and out, and VU2MDA.

This was our first Saturday Youth Net following the passing of Ed KG8CX. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped keep YACHT active on the air. Continuing to bring our youth operators together each week is one of the best ways we can carry forward the work Ed began.

CHAT SESSIONS… Wednesday, September 23 had 4 ops. Youth operators: KJ7AGQ, KE9FXQ and K9GVN. Also aboard was K3TEL.

Thursday, September 24 had 3 ops, with Ian KI8AN serving as Net Control. Youth operator: KI8AN. Also aboard were K3TEL and VU2MDA.

Friday, September 25 had 5 ops. Youth operators: KJ7AGQ, KC3RAP and KJ5NVM. Also aboard were K3TEL and VU2MDA.

Monday, September 28 had 6 ops. Youth operators: KJ7AGQ and KJ5NVM. Also aboard were KE2AVB, KC5LUR, K3TEL and VU2MDA.

Tuesday, September 29 had 4 ops. There was no designated Net Control for the session. Youth operators KJ5NVM and KI8AN were joined by N5GNR and K3TEL.

Thank you to everyone who continued checking in during what has been a very difficult week for the YACHT family. Hearing our young operators and longtime supporters continuing to meet on the air reminds us of the friendships and community Ed worked so hard to build.

YACHT MOVING FORWARD…YACHT will continue. The regular Youth Net and weekday chat sessions will remain on the air while we work together on the next steps for the organization.

Ed handled many parts of YACHT over the years, and it will take some time to work through everything. Rather than having one person try to fill Ed’s place, we hope to have several active youth members and adult supporters share responsibilities and help keep YACHT going strong.

The YACHT website, Net Control signup schedule and Net Control logging forms will continue to be available. We also hope to involve more of our youth operators in running the nets and helping guide YACHT into the future.

Ed spent nearly two decades helping young hams make friends, learn new skills and enjoy amateur radio. The best way we can honor that work is to continue getting on the air, welcoming new young operators and keeping YACHT sailing through the radio waves.
